Address by the Dean on the Safety Campaign Day <\/strong> at the School of Engineering<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n This is\nSetoguchi, Dean of the School of Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n August 10 is\nthe day for safety campaign at School of Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Twenty-eight years\nago today, the 10th of August in 1992, a tragic accident took away the precious\nlives of an assistant professor and a doctor course student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This accident\nis believed to be caused by oxygen deficiency due to large quantities of\nnitrogen generated from liquid nitrogen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On this\noccasion, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the two colleagues who\npassed away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The School of\nEngineering took this accident seriously and designated this day as \u201cSafety\nCampaign Day\u201d resolving to keep the school a safe place for education and\nresearch with strict safety measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This year, to prevent the spread of COVID-19,\nwe began restricting school attendance in April and started offering online\nclasses.\nI would like to express my sincere\nappreciation to all of our staff and students for coping with the various\nchanges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n While it may feel as if life is gradually starting\nto return to normal, this does not mean there is no longer any risk of\ninfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I call on you to be constantly aware of risks\nin your experiments and work as well as to always keep safety in mind.
