工学部長の名和でございます。
本日８月１０日は、平成４年に起きてしまったこの日のことを忘れてはならない思いと，実験中の事故防止や安全教育に対する重要性をあらためて考える日として，本学部が独自に「工学部安全の日」として定めました。
今から２４年前の平成４年８月１０日、当時，助手であった先生と大学院生のお二人が亡くなるという大変痛ましい事故が発生いたしました。
原因は、液化窒素による酸欠とされております。
本学部としては、このような悲しい出来事を二度と繰り返さないように、安全衛生管理室を中心に安全に対する様々な取り組みを実施してまいりました。
これからも，「工学部安全の日」の思いを胸に，みなさん一人ひとりが，安全についての意識と自覚を持って学業や研究に取り組んでいただきたいと思います。
ここに、亡くなられたお二人に謹んで哀悼の意を表し，あらためて安全に対する意識を新たにしていただきたく、心よりよろしくお願い申し上げます。
Address by the Dean on the Safety Campaign Day at School of Engineering

This is Nawa, Dean of School of Engineering.
Today, the 10th of August is the day for safety campaign at School of Engineering. This day was designated independently by School of Engineering to think back the importance of accident prevention and safety education during laboratory work.
24 years ago today, a tragic accident happened and took away the precious lives of an assistant professor and a graduate student. The cause of the accident is oxygen deficiency due to liquid nitrogen.
We established Safety and Health Management Office in School of Engineering, and it has been putting various efforts not to repeat the same tragedy.
I would like to ask you to remind the significance of “the Safety Campaign Day” and have an awareness of safety during study and research.
Once again, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the two colleagues who passed away, and request for your higher awareness of safety management at this occasion.
